Hey everyone! I made it safe in Brasilia, Brasil! It was such a a long journey to get here. First I had to fly from LA to Atlanta, meet up with the rest of the group
and then make the journey to Brasilia. We checked into our hotel rooms and I was so excited to see the beautiful view from my balcony!
So Fredinho and I unpacked and went exploring around the compound. To our wonderful surprise, the view could get better. In fact, as I was basking in the beauty of my surroundings, I had forgotten about the clouds in Brasil and how beautiful they are; and they don't move!
We were then spoiled with a wonderful lunch at the hotel restaurant, with the most amazing chicken with a passion fruit (maracuja in Portuguese) sauce on top. It was to DIE for! Then we got a chance to go to the park to walk around (where there was also a small amusement park there too!). The park was wonderful and there was so much activity from the locals: skateboarding, cycling, rollerblading, and we even got to see some Live Action Role Play (LARP)
The first day was so exhausting! but we made it through and we rested up because we knew that the second day would be jam-packed with so many activities! I am so grateful to IREX for putting together this whole field study experience.
One the second day, I started off my day with a beautiful sunrise.

We then received a great lecture on Brazilian history and culture by a Brazilian teacher, Liberato Santos. Liberato has been absolutely amazing, and his level of knowledge of both the American and Brazilian educational system has been immense. It was so enlightening to not just here about the struggles that teachers from across the US are having, but also to hear about the struggles the teachers from Brazil are having. These are some that were talked about:
You'll notice how similar these challenges are to the challenges US teachers face. I've learned so much in just the few days that I've been here and I have so many questions I'd like to research.
I wish I had time to just sit and write about all the wonderful things happening to my soul and mind right now, but if I sat here writing then how could I explore?
Until next time!
