I am excited to share my adventures with everyone! I have been participating in the Teachers for Global Classrooms Program, where teachers from all over the U.S. were chosen to learn about Global Studies, global education and what it takes to be a 21st learner. As a culmination of my studies, I am doing a field study in Brazil, where I will be immersed in Brazilian culture and where I will learn about the Brazilian educational system.
This website is designed for the teachers and students at Alexander Hamilton High School to help build connections with a broader community of human beings. The Teacher Resources is a space provided for ideas on implementing global concepts and ideas into the classroom. The blog is an account of my experiences while working with students in Brazil.
What is Global Education?
Global education is the act of infusing our curriculum with current events, culturally relevant texts, connections to real world challenges, global issues, and multicultural awareness. Specifically it:
- Prepares our students to participate fully in today’s and tomorrow’s world
- Allows our students to learn about, within, and for a complex and interconnected world
- Utilizes global literacy- ability to function in an increasingly globalized world.
Global education is about connecting peoples, young and older people, to different cultures from around the world. Through this connection, it is possible to collaborate to help solve some common issues. This is why global education is important to teach in a Common Core classroom; through these connections, students can learn to start making creative decisions that result in innovative ideas.
